I am a musician and academic. I lecture mostly in Music departments, and my research focuses on learning and teaching in Scottish Music education. My PhD (available to read here https://era.ed.ac.uk/handle/1842/36622) looks at how music educators can gatekeep access to musical learning experiences, and how their own experiences with music impact on their relationship with teaching music. I argue that the coloniality of Western Art music contributes to barriers to music education in Scotland.
